IFES names new General Secretary
The International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, established 73 years ago by InterVarsity Canada and nine other student mission movements, has named Tim Adams as its new General Secretary.
“I have known Tim for a long time and three things have consistently marked his leadership,” said Nigel Pollock, InterVarsity President. “Firstly, his humility. He is a servant leader always willing to promote, encourage and empower others. Secondly, his commitment. He is passionate about the vision and mission of IFES and to communicating that internally and externally. Thirdly, his drive and determination to help us do better through ministry innovation and improving systems.”
Based in Oxford, England, Tim has most recently served as the IFES Associate General Secretary. He has been with IFES for nearly 20 years. In the last six years as Associate General Secretary, Tim has initiated and overseen global projects such as Breaking New Ground, Innovation in Evangelism, the Theological Advisory Group and an e-learning program. He has also led the International Services Team.
Prior to joining IFES, Tim worked as a schoolteacher and later as a fundraising and communications director for non-profit organizations.
Tim gave his life to Jesus Christ at the age of 16. He holds a BA in Theology from London School of Theology and a Masters in Managing Change and Organizational Learning from Oxford Brooks University.
Tim and his wife, Sophie, have three children. The family is active at St. Andrew’s Church North Oxford.
“These are challenging days for IFES with all that is going on in the world and in our growing global fellowship,” said Nigel. “This leadership search has not been an easy one and we are thankful for the perseverance and work of the IFES Board. I am confident that Tim has the leadership gifts and management experience to see us through this transition and look forward to welcoming him back to Canada when circumstances allow.” Read more about this appointment here.
